Indech

Fomorian King and Son of Domnu

Indech mac Dé Domnann was one of the principal Fomorian kings at the Second Battle of Mag Tuired, and the one the Morrígan singled out for herself.

Before the battle, the Morrígan met the Dagda at a river ford and lay with him, securing her support for the Tuatha Dé. As part of that agreement, she made a specific promise: she would bring two handfuls of Indech’s blood and both his kidneys to the Dagda. During the battle, she did exactly that.

His title — mac Dé Domnann, “son of the god of the deep” — connects him to Domnu, the primordial Fomorian abyss, the foundational darkness from which Fomorian power draws its nature. Indech is that depth made into a warrior king — the oldest and most fundamental Fomorian force expressed in its most active, military form.

When Bres was expelled from the Tuatha Dé’s kingship and his own father Elatha refused to help him take it back by force, it was Indech — alongside Balor — who agreed to assemble the Fomorian army. He had fewer ethical reservations than Elatha. The Second Battle of Mag Tuired was partly his war to fight.
