Fomorian Sea-Lord
Morc mac Deled was a Fomorian sea-lord active in the earliest period of Ireland’s mythological history — before the great battles between the Fomorians and the Tuatha Dé Danann, when the first peoples to settle Ireland were trying to establish themselves against the Fomorian powers already there.
He appears in the accounts of the earliest invasions, contesting the settlements of the people of Cessair and the people of Partholón. He is the Fomorian presence at its most ancient — the sea-power that came from the ocean and pushed back against every incoming people, long before Balor‘s eye or Bres‘s failed kingship defined what the Fomorians meant.
His name may connect to words meaning “great” or “sea.” He has no extended story of his own, but his place in the earliest layer of the invasions makes him one of the most archaic Fomorian figures in the record.
